This chart shows the historical hourly federal minimum wage amount since 1938, it also adjusts these wages to today’s dollars to show the real value of the minimum wage.

For example, while in 1967 the federal minimum wage was only $1.60, it would actually be equivalent to over $11 in 2014 dollars.

ABOUT THIS CHART

This chart shows the percentage of hourly paid workers age 16 and over with earnings at or below the federal minimum wage, by gender. As you can notice, there is an apparent gender gap when it comes to minimum age earners, with a higher percentage of women workers earning the minimum wage or less, as compared to their male peers.
